Date 2023.09.08

On March 24, 2023, Dr. Seung-hun Chun, Chairman of the Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS), was appointed as the inaugural President of the Consulting Association for International Development (CAIND).
President Chun’s distinguished career began at Seoul National University, followed by earning his Master’s and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan. After passing the 13th Higher Civil Service Examination, he held several key positions, including Director-General at the Economic Planning Board, Director at the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and Vice President of the Korea Institute of Public Finance. Notably, in 2002, he founded the Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS), a private organization specializing in development cooperation, at a time when the private development consulting industry was virtually non-existent in Korea. He continues to lead KDS as its Chairman today.
In his inauguration speech, President Chun presented a bold vision for CAIND: "Securing Korea's position among the global top 10 in international development cooperation." To achieve this, he expressed his commitment to
-
Nurturing 100 specialized development consulting firms.
-
Cultivating 3,000 professional development consultants.
-
Achieving a top-10 ranking in the global procurement market.
The inaugural general assembly was attended by over 30 founding members representing the ODA industry. The event saw a strong start for the association, with participants from government ministries related to ODA, former officials from KOICA and EDCF, and professionals from specialized consulting firms, engineering companies, accounting firms, and IT enterprises, as well as individual consultants.
Moving forward, CAIND plans to pursue various initiatives to achieve its founding goals.
-
Vitalizing the international development consulting industry.
-
Pioneering a "blue ocean" for job creation in the international aid market.
-
Contributing to the international community and the national economy by maximizing "development effectiveness."
